A wall of expansive doors and windows by LaCantina invites the outdoors in, fostering an organic connection with the lush Southern California exterior.
Nestled in the canyons of Carlsbad, our Canyon Sol renovation transformed a well-loved family home into a vibrant blend of coastal and Spanish-inspired style that pays homage to its scenic surroundings. Over the course of 10 months, this project encompassed a full gut and remodel of the dining and family rooms—complete with a reimagined fireplace—as well as the staircase, fresh flooring throughout the ground floor, and a striking new powder room. The kitchen was fully renovated to include a cozy breakfast nook and coffee bar.
We crafted interiors that both honor the home’s Spanish-style architecture and will stand the test of time. Steering clear of trends (no all-white kitchen!), the design balances personality with comfort—a fitting approach for our clients, a young family of five.
We also added extra storage and a sleek stone fireplace surround, with a durable finish that’s able to withstand the family dogs’ habit of jumping on it.
The kitchen features a lively wavy marble countertop that adds depth and movement. An Arto-patterned tile backsplash and a plaster hood evoke the home’s Spanish inspiration, with antique brass finishes and statement lighting for a hint of character.
The breakfast nook creates a cozy anchor for the family. It’s become a favorite gathering spot, framed by furnishings from Four Hands that bring together rustic and modern style.
The custom coffee bar includes a built-in Miele coffee maker and an ice maker, with an Arto concrete tile backdrop. Engineered wood flooring runs throughout, creating visual continuity and durability.
In the entry, a herringbone pattern welcomes guests with subtle elegance.
Designed as a hidden gem, the powder bathroom features a bold vertical subway tile with earthy greens and tans, a floating marble vanity, and terracotta hex tile flooring, blending Spanish tradition with modern edge.
“Keri was great to work with. We appreciate her attention to detail and how organized she is. We love the final result of our remodel and couldn’t have done it without Keri’s keen eye for design.”
